The Road Map — How to Read the Chronicles
You can read any book in the World of the Immortal Waiter as a stand-alone story. Each has its own stakes, its own adventure… and its own coffee.
But if you’d like to follow the running threads, recurring characters, and quiet connections between eras, here’s the recommended path.
The Café Journals (Short Story Collections)
Each volume contains six independent stories plus a prologue. The prologues gradually introduce the deeper continuity of the Café — and, eventually, my own encounters with the Waiter.
Helen may have convinced him to allow his story to be told. He, reluctant about publicity, compromised by selecting me as chronicler of his journals.
Books:
-
The Time Merchant Café: Still Open — where I first meet the Waiter in his Café
Best Read: In order, if you want the unfolding prologue arc. Out of order works perfectly if you prefer standalone stories.
The Civilization Chronicles (Novels)
All novels are written to stand alone. However, three form a loose progression.
The first remains grounded on present-day Earth.
The next two expand outward — into space and larger existential stakes.
Books:
-
Earth’s Salvation — A fully self-contained thriller
-
Galaxy’s Threat — Stands alone, with characters continuing forward
-
The End of All Life — Independent, but most powerful when read after Galaxy’s Threat
Other Stand-Alones
-
Just Walk Away — A romance within the world, independent yet touched by the Waiter
-
Destiny’s Shadow — A moon-landing era thriller, self-contained
The Author-in-the-Adventure Series
Where I step into the story myself — whether prepared or not.
-
The Author’s Destiny — My first encounter with the Waiter, who appears in my living room
-
The Immortal Waiter, the Demigod, and the Guy with a Notebook — This time, Hercules joins us
-
The Immortal and Ron, One More Time — My final adventure
(Spoiler: I survive.)
